In the musical genres of Merengue, Bachata and Latin pop, Mamajuana is one of the most innovative, attractive and exciting Dominican  bands of our time.

The idea is conceived by Eddi Gonzalez, director and leader of the group, who, with his creativity and composing style, is able to arrange and produce merengue in order to open new frontiers for this classical Caribbean genre to the entire world. More than a merengue band, Mamajuana is a musical concept that transports us to ethnic legacy.   Mamajuana is a song to our ancestors with a mixture of funny, contemporary, romantic and sensual lyrics.

Mamajuana combines a variety of hypnotic rhythms brought from the rich and diverse "Afro-Caribbean" culture that exists in the Dominican Republic.

Mamajuana is backed by a 8 piece orchestral powerhouse of brasses, percussions, drums, keyboards, bass, and guitar. The vocals are performed by a foursome of talented young and attractive singers, unleashing an unforgettable entertainment experience.

Their self-titled debut album, released by Sony International, featured the hit singles "Mamasota" and "Sin Un Beso Suyo." After two weeks in the U.S. market, Mamajuana sold 20,000 copies and also got nominations for Best Dominican New artist at Premios Cassandra and Best Tropical Group or Duo on Premios Lo Nuestro, Univision.

 "FOR SALE", their 2nd album included 12 songs and was released under Karen Records and distributed internationally by Universal Music Latino, which includes the smash hit "Tomando Mamajuana" (Live at Jimmy's), quickly put this band in the top of the world music charts and gave them a pre-nomination to the 2004 Grammy Awards, as a best Urban Album.

In the 2005 years Mamajuana released Bachata Bahiana, an experiment of mixing Dominican music with  Portuguese lyrics. For this Eddi joined forces with Claudio Carneiro, who brought his unique voice to those beautiful songs.

For 2006 and 2007, they released some singles like "Tu Amor" and "Ven Bailalo", which had been very succesful in Discos in Europe and latin america.

Mamajuana has performed in a lot of famous scenarios, and festivals around the world and it's actually the first Dominican band to ever perform a season in China, they were performing for six months at the world biggest hotel and casino: The venetian Macau and also in the Sands Casino Macau.
